Trollope, Anthony (Edwards, P.D.; Joyce, R.B. eds)
Leatherette with gilt title to spine, in slipcase with paper cover illustrated with a portrait of Trollope. Its only fault is a neat ownership signature on the front end paper. One of the most celebrated and prolific authors of the Victorian era, Anthony Trollope (1815-82) was also an enthusiastic traveller. Australia recounts his across Britain's colonies in the Antipodes. First published in 1873, it celebrates the success of British colonisation, but also considers with pragmatic foresight the inevitable unification of the Australian territories and their desire for greater independence. The book covers his travels through the six states and addresses their history and governance assessing also the current condition of the region's institutions, people and resources. A very nice copy.
