The boards are rubbed, the front one faded and with long dead mould spots on the head's outer edge; the spine strip is beginning to unravel at the head of the back cover. The front hinge is exposed, and the back one has been reinforced with masking tape; there is an ownership inscription on the front end paper, the title page, the tail of page 578 and again on the blank tail of page 31.
