"The Shellal Mosaic is the largest ancient mosaic pavement in Australia. It was uncovered by Australian and New Zealand Service Personnel at Shellal, near Gaza, in 1917 " With the discovery of the mosaic pavement of the Synagogue at Ma'on (Nirim) near Gaza in 1957, the booklet was revised. The third edition includes material concluding that the Ma'on and Shellal mosaics are products of the same workshop. In 2011 questions were raised as to whether the Mosaic was illegally looted by journalist Paul Daley.
