The Mapping Project

Peacock, Mary
From the City of Port Phillip's web page: "Mary Peacock's The Mapping Project documents the landscape of Veg Out Community Garden, where she worked as a studio artist for three years. The Mapping Project's various works, which include two large wall drawings of dried flora, are included in a publication partly funded by a $3000 contribution from Council's Cultural Development Fund. Ms Peacock said her three year residency at Veg Out provided her with a unique opportunity to engage in a prolonged study of the space. The publication includes a larger heritage, which is charted through archival plates of the area's wetlands that existed prior to colonisation. A selection of maps, drawings and photos produced over the three years at Veg Out reflect this colonial imprint and highlight the absence of Indigenous culture." And from the Abbotsford Convent web page: "Mary Peacock is an installation artist. Mapping is intrinsic to her practice, she maps her inner world by recording dreams as she simultaneously maps the external world and her responses to it. Mary's research focuses on giving presence to the hidden realities of language, place and experience..." No publication data given, though this could be the catalogue of an exhibition held in St. Kilda on November 19th to December 16th, 2014. A very attractive publication.
