"The Wonnangatta-Moroka section of the Alpine National Park is a remote and rugged haven for wildlife. The scenery is always grand and the wildflowers wonderful, especially in spring and early summer. But evenings round a camp fire can be cool. Cattle grazing had its beginnings in the Howqua and Macalister River areas in the mid 1800s and later extended to include most of the grassy forested slopes, river flats and snow plains. You can sense the history by visiting the ruins of the Wonnangatta station, home of the pioneer Bryce family for many years, and the site of an unsolved murder.(Parks Victoria)
