The Farmer's Library, Animal Economy Volume I

Martin, W.C.L. and Youatt, William
586 pages, plus index. The book comprises two sections: The Ox, and The Horse and is volume one of a two volume set. Overseas customers please be aware that the book weighs nearly 1.5 kilos and will attract a steep postage increase. At some stage the book has been professionally rebound in blue boars with gilt title on spine. The middle of the front board has a small stain. The preliminaries: the frontispiece, the title page, table of Contents, all suffering from loss around the edges, has been repaired by being pasted onto a backing page; the list of illustrations has been reinforced around the edges. The title page to the section on the 'The Ox" is missing, as is part of the Index to The Horse, which finishes with the letter c. There is intermittent foxing throughout; pp39 - 42 suffer from very short closed tears at the head; pp 411 was miscut at the printers and part of the outer edge id jagged. Page 579/578 is inserted between pages 564 and 565. Despite its imperfections, it is a solid copy thanks to the rebinding, the pages are unmarked and the illustrations sharp. The publication date and the name of the author of The Ox section has been taken from Worlcat.
Published 1848 Charles Knight London.
